As hotels see a deluge of demand for lodging at this time of year, visitors may have a hard time squeezing into a room in on-campus hotels.

With commencement ceremonies taking place at roughly the same time of year for high schools and universities alike across the city, last-minute bookings may no longer be a viable option.

The Powelton Village Civic Association will vote May 19 to extend the Powelton residential permit parking hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through 8 a.m. tthrough 8 p.m.

"Complaints about difficulties finding parking caused us to revisit the current situation with permit parking," Tony Dominick, president of the PVCA, said.

Honors College advisor dies

Antonia McMenamin, better known as "Toni," a long-time faculty member of the Pennoni Honors College, died early May 13 after a long-time battle with cancer.

McMenamin, who suffered from leukemia and became prone to infections in recent months, was removed from life support May 10, according to Mark Greenberg, dean of the Honors College.

Preliminary yield drops to 63 percent

The preliminary yield rate for the class of 2012 fell to 63 percent, leading the admissions office to utilize its waitlist more extensively this year.

The percentage of students accepted before May 1 who decided to enroll is down from the 66-percent yield at this time last year.

Controversy continues to mount over the ever-rising bar for gaining admission to CUNY senior colleges.

The beginning of this year marked the implementation of the toughest admissions requirements since the 1998 termination of CUNY's open admissions. CUNY's 2007 decision to raise the required cutoff for SAT and New York State Regents math scores went into effect this past admissions season, with a higher cutoff for SAT and New York State Regents verbal scores soon to follow.

Dedicated in November of 1949 to alumni who gave their lives in World War II, the first basketball game played on its court was a 62-46 loss to Rhode Island.
