Hit band Fall Out Boy will perform live April 18 at Rutgers Stadium on Busch campus for the Gridiron Bash pep rally.

Scarlet Knight spirit will be put to the test this spring with "Gridiron Bash, the Ultimate Fan Competition," featuring Fall Out Boy, who will perform live at Rutgers Stadium during a giant pep rally on April 18, the night before the annual Scarlet and White football game.

Hosted by USA Today and MSL Sports and Entertainment, Gridiron Bash will have bands such as O.A.R. and the Black Crows simultaneously traveling to 20 Division I football stadiums at colleges across the country, including football rivals West Virginia University and Louisiana State University.

A large part of Gridiron Bash is a fan contest - The USA Today Bash for Cash Series - will decide which university has the most passionate and spirited fans, with a formula of 70 percent attendance and 30 percent text-in votes that will determine the winners.

The winning university will obtain $1 million for their general scholarship fund with the second and third place schools receiving $500,000 and $250,000 respectively.

Mike Teel, a University College senior and the starting quarterback for the Scarlet Knights, said the event is nothing but positive.

"This is a great idea, not only for football but for the University," Teel said. "The Gridiron Bash gives students the opportunity to see a big time performance at the stadium, and it can only bring good things."

Since ticket sales began, students' reactions to the event have mostly been in realm of excitement.

"I think it is awesome that a great band, Fall Out Boy, is coming to our school," said Jessica Ha, a Livingston College senior. "We can show our school spirit and have so much fun while making money for our school."

"I know Rutgers fans will come out and show pride for Rutgers football just as much as I do during the season," Ha said.

Jason Heller, a University College senior, showed the same amount of confidence for his school and excitement for the event.

"I want to show the rest of the country how much spirit Rutgers has while I have a great time with my friends at the end of the school year," he said. "Winning the money and showing the world that Rutgers football is forever are just added bonuses."
