New Brunswick residents and visitors of all ages came out Friday and Saturday night to take part in free carriage rides throughout the city despite the cold weather.
The Greyhorse Carriage Company, run by husband and wife Kevin and Elaine McMinn, provided the rides.
“It’s a pleasure working here, that’s for sure,” Elaine McMinn said. “The people are great, the organizers are great. It’s just a really nice town to work in, and we enjoy it very much.”
Two jingle bell adorned carriages were available and each held about six to 10 passengers.
The holiday spirit was alive and well in New Brunswick Friday when the town held its annual holiday tree lighting ceremony at Monument Square, where donations from a chili cook-off went to raise money for Elijah’s Promise, a local food bank.
The focus of the ceremony was to raise awareness for helping others, especially during such a harsh economic time.
“We’re excited about the tree lighting coming back to town and appreciative of all of you coming out and sharing with us,” New Brunswick Mayor James Cahill said. “Please remember those who are in need during the holiday season, because particularly in this time of year, those types of things are even more important than ever.”
